Twenty four trillion dollars.
That is what sits under the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gold. Copper. Cobalt. Coltan. Diamonds. It matches the entire economy of the United States. And the people living on top of it earn less than six hundred dollars a year. Their children crawl into pits dug by hand and break rock with their fingers.
This is not poverty. Poverty is an accident. This is robbery, and it has an address.

The West takes it. Not with armies now. With a price set in London, a refinery in Dubai, and a trading desk in Switzerland. At the mine, the African is not allowed to name his price. London names it for him, on the London Bullion Market Association, run by the banks of Europe and North America. He does not sell. He is handed a number and told to accept it.
